WPC Elects Aircharge wireless charging to Co-Chair its Promotional Working Group

Feb 25, 2015

Following recently being appointed chair of the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) Infrastructure Application Group (IAG), Aircharge today announced that it has also been elected to co-chair the global WPC Promotional Working Group (PWG). It is also acting chair of the European sub-group of the PWG

Aircharge joins existing chair, Convenient Power and co-chair Texas Instruments in this position on the PWG, which exists to develop and execute WPC and Qi marketing and communication strategy.

“The wireless power industry is on the edge of a rapid acceleration phase, with products incorporating the WPC Qi specification leading the way", commented Steven Liquorish, Founder and CEO of Aircharge. “Raising awareness of wireless charging to both consumers and businesses is equally as important as developing the infrastructure to support it. Aircharge is honored to be a chairing member of these two fundamental WPC working groups."

Aircharge already has deployed wireless charging installations in more than 80 public locations throughout the UK, making London the world’s most prominent wireless charging hub. It is working with some of the world’s largest brands to develop an extensive wireless charging ecosystem. In addition, Aircharge offers a range of accessories that enable any mobile device to charge wirelessly, focusing on a quality consumer experience and compatibility throughout its range.

Participation in the PWG is open to all members of the Wireless Power Consortium.

Established in 2008, the Wireless Power Consortium is an open, collaborative standards development group of more than 200 company members. WPC’s members include Aircharge, Belkin, Convenient Power, Delphi, Freescale, IKEA, Haier, HTC, LG, Microsoft, Motorola, Nokia, Panasonic, PowerbyProxi, Royal Philips, Samsung, Sony, TDK, Texas Instruments, Verizon Wireless and ZTE. These companies -- large and small competitors and ecosystem partners, from all parts of the industry and all parts of the globe -- collaborate for a single purpose: to design and evolve the world’s most useful, safe and efficient standard for wireless power.

This global standard is called Qi, and it has become the world’s leading method for transferring electrical power without wires. Qi is designed into 80+ mobile devices, 15 models of cars, has more than 700 registered products that are enjoyed by more than 50 million users worldwide.
